Attach the tying thread on the hook. Make a solid base with som wraps around the area you want the wing to appear.  

Cut off a piece of your wing product. Lay it under your hook

Pull the wing product upwards and around the hook. Use your one hand and hold it tight

When holding it. Use your bobbin hand to make a couple of turns on both sides to secure the wing

Now you can make some turns around the wing base

Make the base for the hackle. Use your tying thread and wrap up on the wing. Not to much, but enough to make it solid
